Rear Fuselage - Baggage Area Clecoed

04JUL2023

Today, I trimmed the baggage angle because it was interfering with an l-angle on the top skin.

Then I cut and drilled the l-angles for the baggage back and floor pieces.  I also clecoed in the flaperon control covers and uprights.

Then I started on the l-angles that attach to the baggage floor and control covers.  These were a bit tricky since they are hard to get to underneath the baggage floor.  The longer l-angles (on the sides of the control cover) weren't too bad, but the shorter ones (behind the channel) gave me a little trouble.

First, I noticed that the bend in the supplied l-angle didn't match the angle between the back channel and the floor.  So I first tried bending it till the angle matched.  Then I back-drilled the holes and when I pulled the pieces off, the holes were almost on the edge.  It seemed like the l-angle was too narrow to fit properly in this spot, so I grab some scrap aluminum and made new ones.  I cut out two 2x2-inch squares and then bent them on the press.  The bend angle came out good and after drilling, I have much better edge clearance for the holes.

Baggage angle trimmed around top skin l-angle

Supplied l-angle bend not matching

Rebent supplied l-angle

Poor edge clearance after drilling the shorter l-angle pieces

Custom-made l-angle to match the bend and has better hole clearance
