I wanted to work on the landing light lens today, but I wasn't quite sure how to cut the plexiglass or how much heat to use to reshape it. So I cut out a practice piece from some scrap that I got from another builder at the airport.
I used the dremel with the plastic cutoff wheel and then the sanding drum to cut the piece out. Then I used a heat gun to warm up the plastic until I could start to bend it. It was a little tricky to get it shaped, but I got it really close.
The lens is supposed to go under the skin and be installed from the front. So I started trimming the edges down to figure out what size the lens would need to be in order to do this.
I was getting a bit frustrated because I couldn't seem to get it to fit right, so I called it a day. I'm going to put this area on hold and come back to it later.
